
February in Calgary is known to bring continued colder weather and some years even snow. By this time many Calgarians are ready for Spring and the snow to be gone. We also start getting our seeds in the store and this acts as another encouraging push for Spring to arrive.
What’s in season in Italy in February
Winter produce continues to carry over including items such as cabbage, cauliflower, celery, beets, leeks, onions, spinach, pears and citrus. Broccoli and fennel come on strong this month and are plentiful in Italy. Fennel is an Italian staple used in soups, salads, on crackers or bread or simply sauteed and served as a side. Broccoli or broccoli rabe is delicious with orecchiette, a pasta said to resemble a small ear.
While we are not always able to carry produce at the peak of it’s season due to a variety of reasons including availability, shipping and sometimes weather challenges, we do believe produce is of better quality and taste when in season.
